Lorie Vincent and Janet Claborn, will be honored as the 2010 Outstanding Dairy Industry Development Award winners, Thursday, Feb. 11 at 11:45 a.m. at the Dairy Profit Seminars located at the Seminar Center between “R” and “S” streets along Expo Lane at World Ag Expo.

Vincent is executive director of The High Ground of Texas, and Claborn is director of Muleshoe Economic Development Corp. – both professional women have been major contributors toward building the dairy industry in the Panhandle and High Plains region of the Southwest.

The High Ground of Texas is a regional economic development coalition established in 1987. Vincent’s responsibility requires the administration of a highly effective, diversified marketing and membership program for a 60-plus county region. Prior to accepting the High Ground position in 1999, she implemented an award winning, nationally acclaimed, rural economic development program in Sherman County, Texas.

Lorie currently serves as the treasurer on the board of the Texas Economic Development Council. She serves on the Texas Panhandle Regional Development Corporation Executive Committee and the West Texas A&M University Foundation Board. She has served as a director on the Panhandle Workforce Development Board and the Panhandle Twenty/20 Advisory Committee.

Vincent has been, or is currently, a member of the Professional Speakers Association of the Southwest, the International Economic Development Council, the Leadership Texas Alumnae Association, and is a Master Graduate III of the Rapport International Leadership Development Program. She is the recipient of numerous honors and is nationally recognized for her economic development, public speaking, training and leadership accomplishments.

Prior to moving back to the Panhandle, Lorie resided in the San Antonio area, where she held positions in corporate property development, real estate accounting and public relations.

She attended Schreiner College and West Texas State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting with a minor in Finance. She is a certified economic developer.

Vincent has also provided more than 20 years of personal and professional development programs and workshops to hundreds of clients through her firm, Lorie Vincent, Inc. Those who know her best say, “her knowledge runs deep and her enthusiasm is contagious!”

Lorie is married to Matt Vincent and they have one daughter, Mazie Rae. The Vincents reside in Stratford, Texas.

Janet Buckley Claborn has been the director of the Muleshoe Economic Development Corporation since 2000.

Claborn said that 10 years ago, Muleshoe had two dairies within their trading area and they were milking a total of approximately 1,550 cows. Today, Muleshoe boasts 15 dairies within a 15-mile trade area, milking more than 30,000 cows.

The positive economic impact on the community of Muleshoe has been significant, to say the least. And Claborn has played a major role in bringing the dairies into the region.

Claborn grew up not far from Muleshoe in the small community of Friona, where she was valedictorian of her high school class. She attended Southwestern State College, Weatherford, Okla., where she completed her studies in business.

Prior to working for the Muleshoe EDC, Claborn was an executive assistant with the Arthur Andersen firm in Dallas. She was office manager for the Glendale Union High School District in Phoenix, Ariz. in the early 1990s.

Besides her professional career, Claborn has been heavily involved in community organizations. She was honored with the Rotary International Governor Recognition Award in 2006, The High Ground “Top Gun” Economic Development Award in 2004, the Texas Economic Development Corporation Community of the Year Economic Development Award in 2002.

She was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the Family Practice Residency Advisory Committee in 2008, served as Muleshoe Rotary Club president 2005-06, The High Ground of Texas board of directors 2002-09, was chairman and coordinator for the Muleshoe Annual Coat Drive 2003-09, a volunteer and board member at Bailey County Food Pantry, South Plains Economic Development District Board, Bailey County Rainbow Room board of directors, Bailey County Red Cross steering committee, was team coach for the Bible Bowl Youth Competition, served on the PTA board of directors in Glendale, Ariz., and the Arizona Medical Auxiliary Board of Directors.

Janet is married to Dr. Jobey Doil Claborn, who has a dermatology and family practice and they reside in Muleshoe. They have two sons, Jackie Riley Claborn II, an attorney in Bailey County, and Jason Doil Claborn, construction superintendent, married to Lindsay Dee, an R.N. They have one daughter, Emma Camille Claborn.
